The memorial consists of bronze cast plaque commemorating World War I within an ornamental stone frame with a broken segmental pediment at the top. Within the pediment is an oval panel carved with the Queensferry coat of arms - St Margaret in boat. Below the main plaque is a smaller cast bronze plaque with the date 1914-1918. Flanking this and set into the wall are two small cast bronze plaques commemorating Word War II, again, with smaller date plaques below. The memorial is located on the external wall of the Tolbooth on Main Street in South Queensferry. It is at the base of the tower, above the access staircase.

In 2015 a grant of £35,190 was offered to eight different war memorials in Edinburgh for repair and conservation works. Following completion of the works in 2016 a grant of £27,600 was awarded as costs were lower than anticipated. This Showcase shows the grant paid for each grant as an eighth of the total cost, £3,450.

The works to South Queensferry war memorial dealt with corrosion to the bronze plaques due to exposure to weather. In addition, the stonework surround had cracked or missing mortar in the joints. To address this issue works were undertaken to clean the bronze plaques before a protective wax was applied. The joints in the stonework surround were re-pointed with a lime mortar.

Unfortunately nothing is known about the history of this memorial.
