The memorial in the village of Bramshott near the borders of Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey is a fleury cross with extra cross pieces on each arm, on a tapering pillar which stands on a hexagonal plinth and circular base. The cross, shaft and plinth are Doulting stone, the base Bargate stone, which is quarried locally. The pillar has moulding at the top and the bottom and has round-chamfered edges. The plinth has three protruding blocks on alternate faces with moulded tops and bases and inscribed panels around the faces. The dedications on the shaft and plinth are inscribed and painted red, and the names of the fallen are inscribed and painted black. The memorial stands in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin.
In 2007 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation paid £758 towards work to clean the memorial, to rake out loose and damaged joints, to re-point the memorial and to re-cut and re-paint the red letters.
There is an inscription at the base of the shaft which reads
"In hoc signo"
The inscription on the plinth reads
"To the
glory of God
and the
honoured memory
of Bramshott men
who gave their lives
in the Great Wars
1914 – 1918
1939 -1945
and other conflicts"
The names of the fallen are inscribed on the blocks around the plinth.
After the work was finished the memorial was re-dedicated on Sunday 11th November 2007.
The memorial was dedicated in November 1920 by Sgt Maj F H Dale. The designer was Harry Inigo Triggs, an influential architect and garden designed who himself has a memorial plaque inside St Mary’s church. The builders were Messrs Moon of Haslemere and Messrs Caesar of Liphook.
