St Swithuns' Church in Cheswardine has a war memorial plaque commemorating those who fell in World War I and dedicating the organ in the Church to them. It is made of brass with enamel painted letters and lacquered. It is 20in wide and 36in high.
In 2003 War Memorials Trust supported a conservation project on the plaque, alongside those for the South African War and World War also within the Church (War Memorials Trust reference WM1063 and WM3215), with a total grant of £300. The plaques were repaired and conserved in line with their indiviudal needs. The plaque commemorating those who fell in World War I had remaining lacquered removed, was polished, chipped letters were retouched and the entire plaque was degreased and relacquered.

who gave their lives for
their Country in the Great War (1914-1919)
