St Swithuns' Church in Cheswardine has a war memorial plaque commemorating those who fell in the South Africa war. It is made of brass with enamel painted letters and lacquered. It is 42in wide and 36in high.
In 2003 War Memorials Trust supported a conservation project on the plaque, alongside those for World War I and II also within the Church (War Memorials Trust reference WM3214 and WM3215), with a total grant of £300. The plaques were repaired and conserved in line with their indiviudal needs. The plaque commemorating those who fell in South Africa had remaining lacquered removed, was polished, chipped letters were retouched and the entire plaque was degreased and relacquered.

lasting record to commemorate the loyalty patriotism and
devotion to the Empire of the undermentioned Officers
Non-Commissioned Officers and Men of Cheswardine who
