The World War I memorial plaque in St. James’ United Reformed Church, Alnwick, Northumberland, is made of white and green marbles with incised black lettering and an integral shelf for flowers. At the top of the memorial is a Greek cross with each arm curving wider towards the ends and ending in a convex curve, and inscriptions. Below this is a line of green marble moulding, and then further inscriptions.
In 2007 the church was undergoing substantial remodelling, and applied to War Memorials Trust for money to remove, store and reposition the three memorials within the church; the marble World War I plaque, the plaque for George Cockburn Robertson (WM3494) and the Clayport Presbyterian Church plaque (WM3493) The Trust gave a total grant of £315 for this work.
Either side of the Greek cross are the dates 1914 and 1918. Below this is the inscription
To the Glory of God
and then below the moulding the inscription
In thankfulness for victory, and in
grateful memory of the men belonging to this
congregation, who fell in the Great War
