War Memorials Trust

Other sources of funding

War Memorials Trust  administers grant schemes which are designed to help local communities undertake repair and conservation projects. The grant schemes normally offer grants of up to between 50% and 75% of eligible costs, depending on the particular scheme. This is because of the need to share limited resources between communities and a belief that it is important that the local community contributes to the project. Therefore communities will need to have or find match funding if applying for a grant from War Memorials Trust . Alternatively, they may seek support from other funders who can offer a higher percentage of project costs.

War Memorials Trust  is looking to develop this section of the website in due course to help those looking for funds for war memorial projects but as a starting point we provide a few ideas of other potential sources of funding.

  • Fundraising helpsheet prepared by War Memorials Trust
  • National Lottery Heritage Fund: Can fund projects that involve war memorials
  • Community Foundations: The website to find your local county Community Foundation
  • Memorials Grant Scheme: This scheme is funded by DCMS and returns as a grant the VAT incurred by charities or faith groups exempted from the need to register as charities in building, repairing or maintaining public memorial structures. As of October 2013, professional fees are now eligible under this scheme.  From 1st June 2014 the provider of the scheme has changed so you should check the contact details on the website before submitting an application.
  • Heritage Help: This website contains advice on fundraising as well as suggesting sources of funding
  • Funds for Historic Buildings managed by the Architectural Heritage Fund
  • National Manuscripts Conservation Trust
