Ripponden war memorial © Ripponden PC, 2012The memorial is a stone figure of a First World War Rifleman which surmounts a square set stone plinth. The memorial is prominently sited above the road in the village centre. The plinth bears on all four sides the names of First and Second World War servicemen who lost their lives.

In 2013, War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,489 towards repairs to the memorial and replacement of the recently stolen bronze bayonet which had resulted in part of the granite rifle being broken off. The rifle butt was replicated in granite to match the memorial and was fixed in place using stainless steel dowels and resin. The bayonnet was recreated using Ripponden war memorial © Ripponden PC, 2013photographs of the memorial and was also fixed in place using stainless steel dowels and resin. The mould has been retained by Calderdale Council in case it is needed in the future. In addition light cleaning of the memorial was carried out using soft bristle brushes and water, then the joints were re-pointed using lime mortar.

The memorial was erected in 1920 at a cost of £222.80 and was unveiled on 11th November 1920 by local clergy and dignatories. The craftsmen are unknown.

The inscription reads:

Erected in deepest gratitude to all who fought for us in proud memory of those whose names are inscribed hereon 1914-1919

Their name liveth for evermore
