This war memorial consists of a Latin cross of Forest of Dean stone on top of a tapering four sided shaft and plinth on which also stands a bronze soldier holding his rifle in a present arms position. On the plinth is an inscribed marble plaque in memory of the men of Tredegar who were lost in World War I, with a dedicatory inscription being added later in memory of those who died during World War II. There are also three tilted black polished granite plaques at the base of the memorial which were added in 2000, two of which include the names of those lost in both wars. The memorial is located within the grounds of Bedwellty House and Park, Tredegar. It also incorporates a casket containing a roll of honour of those who died, which is located in Bedwellty House.
In 2012, War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £2,500 towards conservation and repair works to the memorial. This included the installation of protection around the bronze figure and DOFF cleaning of the stonework, including the steps and plinth. The areas of the stonework with heavy copper staining were treated with a poultice. The loose and defective joints were then raked out using hand tools and re-pointed using a colour matched lime mortar mix. The loose steps were re-bedded onto a lime mortar as were the black granite plaques. The iron cramps within the memorial were displaying evidence of rusting, so they were cleaned down with wire brushes to remove all evidence of rust then treated with a rust inhibiting zinc primer and an enamel and fixed back in place. Plastic repairs to areas of minor damage were carried out using a colour matched lime mortar and finally the granite plaques were re-guilded using a gold leaf.
The memorial was designed and sculpted by Newbury Abbot Trent, who was a renowned English sculptor of his day and it was unveiled by Lord Tredegar on 14 December 1924.
