This war memorial consists of a tall octagonal Latin cross surmounting an octagonal plinth and three stepped base. The memorial is constructed of Ham Hill stone, and has bronze plaques across the plinth which bear the names of the men from the Parish who served during World War I and World War II.
In 2012, War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £367.00 towards repairs to the war memorial which included two indent repairs to the steps using a Ham Hill Stone to match the stone of the memorial and mortar repairs to the shaft and to sections of the plinth and steps of the memorial. Joints with missing, loose or defective mortar were re-pointed using an appropriate lime mortar
mix. Re-pointing joints and repairing water-traps in the stone’s surface are very important on the approach to the colder months to prevent water from sitting in the holes or gaps in the stone then freezing and expanding which leads to the fracturing or blowing of the stone.
The bronze plaques were waxed using a micro-crystalline wax for a protective coating and were marked with SmartWater solution as part of the In Memoriam 2014 project.
The memorial was unveiled by Lieutenant Colonel Hartley Maud on 23 January 1921 and dedicated by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, Bishops Kennior. It was paid for by public subscription, with Colonel Boles and Captain Benson offering to fund the difference between the sum raised by subscription and the total cost.
The dedicatory inscription reads:
In glorious
memory of those
of this Parish
who gave their
lives for their
King and Country
1914 – 1918
1939 - 1945
