This war memorial consists of a life-size bronze figure of a soldier on top of a granite plinth. There are three bronze plaques on the plinth, one of which holds the names of the fallen from World War I and another bears the names of the 10 men from the town who lost their lives in World War II.
War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £535.00 for the addition of a letter “G” to one of the Second World War names to read Mr Gething. In order to do this the plaque had to be removed from the memorial and taken to the workshop, where the new bronze letter was cast and carefully set onto the plaque. The plaque was then re-patinated, waxed and re-fixed onto the memorial using anti-theft fixings. Smartwater was applied to all of the metal elements of the memorial.
The memorial was built after the First World War using funding raised by public subscription and was dedicated in March 1924. The sculptor was Arthur Walker. It was originally located in the Market Square but was later moved to the other side of the road, next to the Iron Bridge.
The inscriptions read:

and undying memory

of Ironbridge

their lives
in the Great War
1914 – 1919
