Swineshead war memorial stands in Market Place in the parish. The Calvary is constructed of limestone with the octagonal plinth carrying plaques inscribed with the names of the fallen.
A grant offer was made in April 2010 towards a programme of conservation works and the addition of names. Defective joints were raked out by hand and re-pointed with lime mortar matching the original colour, texture and finish. In addition, small lime mortar repairs were undertaken on chipped and delaminating stone. The surrounding York paving was lifted and re-laid. Two names were also added to the memorial, cut by hand and painted to match the existing names. In March 2011, on completion of the project, a grant of £671 was made.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
“In thankful
remembrance
of all those
who laid down
their lives
in the war
1914 – 1918
who stand
if freedom
fall who dies
if England
live.
