Fenton war memorial is sited in Albert Square. The obelisk stands on a square base and each face carries a carved wreath. At the front of the memorial a soldier with arms reversed stands above the dates of the two World Wars.
In 2000/1 the English Heritage Grants for the Repair and Conservation of War Memorials scheme gave a grant of £2,940 towards the carving and re-instatement of lost sculptural features. The soldier figure had been vandalised and the sword broken so it was replaced and it, along with the hands of the figure, reinstated.
The memorial is believed to have been unveiled in early 1921. The sculptor was Clifford Wyatt on behalf of Mellor memorials.
