The memorial is a Grade II listed timber, roofed Calvary set within a lead socket in a large limestone base. The base is surrounded by concrete step and paving. It is located within the grounds of Holy Trinity Church, Winchester. The memorial is dedicated to those from the parish who fell in World War I.
An application to the Grants for War Memorials scheme was received in 2009. The proposed works were to clean the memorial using water and non metallic bristle brushes, re-point using lime mortar, re-cut by hand and re-lead lettering where required, fill cracks using a lime mortar and renew one coping stone which was badly worn.
In July 2009 the project was awarded a grant of up to £2,310 towards an estimated project cost of £4,626. All elements of the project were eligible for funding through the Grants for War Memorials scheme.
The foot of the base has a projecting ledge which bears the inscription:
‘To the tender and loving hands of the all merciful saviour we commend the souls of our bretheren (sic) who
from this parish and congregation responded to the call of duty fought for the flag and died for the country’.
