The war memorial at St Mary the Virgin Church, Romney Marsh is a clock which is located on the tower of the Church. There is an accompanying brass plaque which carries the inscription for the memorial.
In 2010, War Memorials Trust gave a grant through its Small Grants Scheme of £2,500 towards a comprehensive programme of conservation and repair works to the clock. These works included repair works to the teeth on the rack as these had bent and one had completely fallen off. The clock was stopping shortly after winding due to problems with the dialworks and the hour hand pointer was rubbing against the dial. Therefore the dialworks were repaired and the lengthened to address this problem. The dial and clock hands were cleaned of old paint and corrosion and the surfaces of the dial were gilded. The clock mechanism was also cleaned and inspected.
The clock made by the well-known clockmaker J W Benson in 1919 and was funded by public subscription.
The inscription on the clock’s associated dedicatory plaque reads:
