This war memorial is a wheel cross with octagonal shaft, plinth and three stepped base. The memorial is made from Poulting stone and is set within a paved area of York stone.
The memorial is located adjacent to St Mary the Virgin Church in Shalford, Surrey.
The main issue with the memorial was that its location next to a road meant pollution had built up on the surface and was causing the lettering to decay. In addition, some of the joints had become open, letting water in. Grants for War Memorials gave a grant of £1,002 towards the steam cleaning of the memorial and re-pointing with lime mortar. The inscription was also record for future reference.
During 1919 a war memorial committee was formed and led by the local vicar. They rasied £370 for the memorial which was unveiled on 17th July 1921 by the Bishop of Guildford. In 1922, the land was conveyed to the parish council from the Godolphin-Austen estate.
The memorial is dedicated to those who fell in World War I and II.
