Sheringham column © Sheringham Town Council, 2009This war memorial is made from Clipsham stone and is a medieval style column. There are decorative bands of tracery over two levels and a small cross on top.

The memorial is located in The Boulevard, Sheringham, Norfolk.

The main problem with the memorial was that the stone inscriptions were being affected by damp salty air. This was mostly apparent on the sea-ward side of the memorial. The problem was exacerbated by areas of weakness within the stone and the relief style of the lettering.

War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £1,905 towards the repair of the inscriptions. This was achieved by piecing in new Clipsham stone and cutting the lettering in the same style.

The memorial was unveiled in 1921 and is dedicated to those who fell in World War I and II from Sheringham and Beeston Regis. It was designed by Herbert Palmer.

The inscription reads:
To keep in remembrance
men of Sheringham
and Beeston Regis
who gave their lives in the
Great WarSheringham column © Sheringham Town Council, 2009

And those who
gave their lives in
1939-1945
The World War

Their name liveth for evermore
