This war memorial is made from rough hewn grey granite wheel cross.
It is located in the parish cemetery in Brompton on Swale, North Yorkshire.
The main issues with the memorial were that the names were becoming hard to read and the kerbing stones had become loose with open joints. War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £440 to clean the memorial with low pressure water and non-metallic bristle brushes. The kerbs were re-aligned and pinned with stainless steel dowels and pointed with hydraulic lime mortar.
Unfortunately, little is known about the date of erection of this memorial but it is likely to have been paid for by public subscription.
It is dedicated to those who fell in World War I and II.
The inscription reads:
To the glory of God
This cross is erected in thankful
remembrance of the following who
made the supreme sacrifice in the
Great European War
1914 -1918
Also to those who
gave their lives in the
Second World War
1939 -1945
