St Marks, Ford war memorial © Stoke Damerel Parish ChurchSt Mark's Church in Ford had a World War I wooden war memorial plaque. The church was scheduled for demolition with a Worship Centre to replace the building. The war memorial was threatened with destruction as it, along with other artefacts, could not be accomodated into the new building. Fortunately members of the local community learnt of the possible loss and acted.

St Mark's Church had ceded from Stoke Damerel Church in Plymouth in 1885. Stoke Damerel now stepped in to offer itself as a home to the memorial from St Mark's and a faculty was obtained to enable the relocation to take place.  The war memorial from St Mark's was placed on the wall in the Church of Stoke Damerel and a small plaque was placed underneath it providing details of its origin.

War Memorials Trust assisted with a grant of £115.00 towards the project.
