The war memorials in the market town of Amersham in the Chiltern Hills, Buckinghamshire stand within the War Memorial Gardens on the Broadway. Behind the World War I memorial cross (WM1818) are tall hedges, in a recess of which the World War II memorial, a bronze plaque with a limestone frame, is mounted on a brick wall.
In July 2006 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation gave £1875 towards work to conserve both the World War I and the World War II memorials. The World War II memorial was cleaned, the paint losses were re-touched with lime wash and microcrystalline wax was applied.
The inscription on the World War II plaque reads
This garden of remembrance is laid out
in honoured memory of those from this
parish who made the supreme sacrifice
in the world war 1939 – 1945
The names of the World War II fallen are listed below this.
The plaque was unveiled on 10 September 1949 by Gen Sir Bernard Paget.
