Colkirk war memorial © Colkirk Parish Council, 2006The war memorial in the Norfolk village of Colkirk is a tapering marble obelisk on a plinth on a four-stepped base. On the front face of the obelisk is a laurel wreath carved in half relief, plus some inscriptions. The names of the fallen are inscribed on carved stone in the form of a scroll which stretches across the front of the plinth. The memorial stands on a grassed area surrounded by a path of paving slabs and a low post and chain fence at the junction of Church Road and Market Hill. Shingle is laid over the wider area. In front of the memorial is a stone flower holder engraved with the words Lest We Forget.

In 2006/7 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation gave a grant of £790 towards work to remove the cracked and uneven concrete surround, level the paving area, lay new concrete slabs, replace the shingle where necessary and to re-erect the post and chain fence.

The dedication on the front of the memorial reads

"To the
glory of God
in
loving memory of
our men
who fell in the war
1914 - 1919"

There then follows a list of sixteen names. A name of one casualty from World War II has been added at the bottom of the list.
