The war memorial in Belmont village, County Durham, is constructed of red Peterhead granite and sandstone. An obelisk stands on a plinth supported by steps. On three faces of the plinth are listed the names of the men who fell in the First World War. The memorial is surrounded by a stone kerb. Behind it to either side are two smaller plinths of the same design, but without obelisks. The front faces of these list the names of the men who fell in the Second World War. The memorial is located outside St Mary Magdalene church on Broomside Lane.
In 2008 War Memorials Trust supported the cleaning of the war memorial with water and soft brushes and the re-gilding of the letters. The grant award was £571.
The memorial cost £184 which was raised by public subscription. The obelisk was designed by Ernley and Sons of Newcastle. It was dedicated on 11th November 1919 and unveiled by the Rt Rev The Lord Bishop of Durham.
The inscription below the names on the front face of the memorial reads
In ever grateful remembrance of
the men of this parish

King and Country in the Great War
1914 – 1919

On the matching plinths to commemorate the Second World War the dates 1939 – 1945 are inscribed on the capstones. The names of all the men commemorated on this memorial can be found at the North East War Memorials Project page.
