A pile of natural rocks forms the centrepiece in a large garden of remembrance within High Lea Park on St Mary's Road in New Mills, High Peak, Derby. The garden, built in 1947 by public subscription, covers a large area containing crazy paved paths, conifer trees, large shrubberies, rose beds, a lawn and benches. The stone of remembrance is to the local people who died in the World War II.
A 2002 conservation project received a grant of £250 from War Memorials Trust. It helped fund the cost of hand cleaning and re-pointing the war memorial.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
Garden of Remembrance
a memorial to the memory of those
who paid the supreme sacrifice and to
commemorate the services rendered by the
citizens of New Mills during the Second
World War.
1939-1945
