The war memorial in the small Fenland village of Coveney, Cambridgeshire, within site of Ely Cathedral, is a wooden lychgate. On one side of the frame of the gate is a panel on which are recorded the names of the men of the village who lost their lives in the world wars. On the other side of the entrance is a wooden statue of St Peter. The memorial has a wooden roof surmounted by a cross. There is an unusual carved feature below the cross.
In June 2002 War Memorials Trust made a grant of £216 towards work to repair the side and the roof of the lychgate, to fix leadwork capping to the top, to rub down and stain all woodwork and to replace two top sections in hardwood.
The dedication above the list of names reads:
"In hallowed memory
of the men of this parish
who gave their lives
in the Great War
1914 - 1918
to keep their country free
from the chains of a foreign yoke"
The lychgate was constructed in 1922 by Edwin Trench.
