Peterhead World War I war memorial comprises a Classical obelisk with moulded cornices and a classical pediment, resting on steps and a landing. The large monument is located close to shoreline near the entrance to Peterhead cemetery.
In 2022, conservation and repair works were carried out with a grant of £4,840 from War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme. The memorial was cleaned using a DOFF steam cleaning system. Following cleaning, the incised lettering was repainted to match the original design. The memorial’s construction joints were carefully raked-out and re-pointed using a lime mortar.
The unveiling of Peterhead War Memorial was on 6th August 1922.
The inscription reads:
1914-1918/ (Names)/ To The Glory Of Almighty God / And In Honour Of / The Men Of This Town Who Gave Their Lives / For Freedom In The Great War Of / 1914-1918 / So They Passed Over And All The Trumpets / Sounded For Them On The Other Side. Unveiled 6th August / 1922 / And Handed Over To The Custody Of / The Provost Magistrates & Councillors / Of The Burgh Of Peterhead.
