Holt war memorial is comprised of a sandstone obelisk on a square plinth and stepped base enclosed by cast-iron railings. A sword of sacrifice is carved into the stone on the front elevation of the obelisk and a carved lion surmounted by crown carved into the base. The war memorial is located at the junction of Frog Lane, The Cross and Castle Street, in the centre of Holt. It was dedicated on the 1st August, 1920 and commemorates the 27 local men who died in World War I, with 9 names added following World War II.
In 2021, conservation and repair works were carried out with a grant of £3140.00 from War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme. The memorial was cleaned using a DOFF steam cleaning system and failing construction joints were carefully raked-out and re-pointed using a lime mortar. In addition, repairs were carried out to the damaged stonework of the carved lion to reinstated the original design.
The inscription reads:
Pro Patria/ In Memory of/ Those Who Gave/ Their Lives For/ Justice and Right/ In The Great War/ (Names)
