Clayton war memorial is a sandstone four-stepped base surmounted by three plinths, a pillar with pediment and topped by another pillar and a small lantern. It is in Clayton Hall Gardens, Ashton New Road.

In 2020, £990 was awarded through War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme supported by the First World War Memorials Programme. It supported repair and conservation works which included stone cleaning of the memorial using DOFF, careful removal of the defective/loose mortar from the memorials construction joints and re-pointing using an appropriate lime mortar.

There was a defective piece of stone to the bottom corner of the inscription panel, previously containing a name, which was removed. This area of the lettering had become unreadable due to the deterioration of the surface of the stone so after its removal it was repaired, and the missing name reinscribed with colour matched repair mortar.

The memorial was unveiled in August 1921.

The inscription on the memorial reads:

“Peace

The Great War
1914-1918
H . Jones
