The Grade II Listed Upton-by-Chester war memorial is located in a garden area on a cross roads. It is in the form of a Celtic wheel cross with carved knot detail to the head of the cross. The memorial is constructed of Darley Vale stone.

In 2017 a grant of £6,010 was offered through the Grants for War Memorials Scheme. As part of the project the memorial was cleaned and repointed. Following the clean some of the lettering was recut and works to the paving surrounding the memorial were undertaken.

The memorial was designed by Mr R H Lockwood and built by H A Clegg. It was unveiled on 13th February 1921 by Sir Philip B Grey, who had gifted the land for the memorial in memory of his two sons who lost their lives in the First World War.
