Houston war memorial sits at the junction of Mains Street and Barochan Road. It comprises a stone wheel cross with Celtic knot designs to the shaft. The cross sits on top of a three stepped stone base. It sits within a site of random stone paving reached by a series of steps. The site has a stone wall boundary and two stone benches towards the rear.
In 2017 a grant of £6,670 was offered through the Centenary Memorials Restoration Fund scheme for a project to the Houston war memorial. The project consisted of repointing the memorial using lime mortar and hand cleaning using water and bristle brushes. In addition works to the paving, handrail, boundary wall and benches were also funded.
The dedication and names on the memorial are in the form of raised lettering. The First World War inscriptions are located at the base of the shaft and the Second World War is on the base.
