East Clevedon war memorial is a calvary cross in a walled area with a seat. There are sculpted stone figures at the base of the memorial and the dedication is incised on the plinth and base. It is located on Walton Road in Clevedon, approximately 200 metres south of All Saints Church.

In 2018, a grant of £15,000 was awarded through the Grants for War Memorials scheme supported by the First World War Memorials Programme and Historic England. It supported repair and conservation works. Repairs were necessary due to damage caused by the roots of a neighbouring tree and the condition of the memorial had deteriorated generally. At the start of works the tree was felled to prevent further damage. The patio stones were then taken up so the ground could be cleared of roots and a fresh subsurface laid. The stones were relaid after the broken ones had been repaired.

The large plinth supporting the cross had considerable damage to the exposed surface and several cracks. These stones were removed, cleaned and reset. The lead covering was also repaired. The wooden cross had split and rotted at the lower end. The damaged wood was removed, and new wood was inserted in its place. The boundary wall was cleaned and re-pointed. The supporting posts for the fence and the gate had rotted. The rot was removed and the fences were fixed to the boundary walls to prevent further damage. SmartWater was also applied to the war memorial as part of the In Memoriam 2014 project seeking to deter the theft of metal from war memorials.

The memorial was designed by Sir Ninian Comper who had provided much of the stained glass and rood screen at All Saints Church. The figures were carved by Comper’s colleague Gough and the rest of the memorial was completed by local builder William Hill. The memorial was rededicated in 1948 when the fallen of World War II were added. The original statue of Christ was replaced in 1957 as the condition of the original was poor.

The inscription on the memorial reads:

“By thy cross & passion
good Lord deliver us”
