This memorial comprises a single-step base with plinth surmounted by a small stone obelisk. The obelisk has a laurel wreath carved in relief to the top of the front face with a recessed shouldered inscription panel with incised lettering to the plinth. The memorial is centred in a plot approximately 28ft x 16ft enclosed by a natural rubble wall with wrought-iron access gate to the front and ironwork railing to the rear. The memorial is flanked by two square small flower beds. The memorial is located to the south-east corner of the village playing fields at the junction of Broadclose Way and Main Street.
In 2019 this war memorial received a grant of £2,580 towards conservation works from War Memorials Trust. The memorial was cleaned using a steam cleaning system. The memorial was dismantled and a foundation built prior to reconstruction using lime mortar. The construction joints of the rubble walls were raked out and repointed using a lime mortar. The railings were brushed down and repainted. In separate works not funded by WMT, the damaged paving was lifted and replaced with a compacted limestone surface similar to what is thought to have originally been used.
The first currently-known record of the memorial dates from 1923 at which point care for the memorial was transferred to Barton St David Parish Council.
The inscription reads:
Lest We Forget
In
grateful memory of
the Men of this Parish
who gave their lives in the
Great War
1914 - 1918
1939 1945
There is a roll of honour with further names, presumably those who served in World War I, on other sides of the plinth.
