Weston Super Mare war memorial is a bronze winged figure of Victory on a limestone plinth with bronze plaques. It is located at Grove Park. The memorial is grade II listed.
In 2018, a grant of £6,200 was awarded through the Grants for War Memorials scheme. It supported repair and conservation works which included steam cleaning of the bronze. Following the cleaning the corrosion on the memorial was chemically re-patinated before a protective microcrystalline wax was applied. The re-patination of the corroded areas stopped any further deterioration and removed the patchy appearance of the finish.
SmartWater was also applied to the war memorial as part of the In Memoriam 2014 project seeking to deter the theft of metal from war memorials.
The memorial was erected in 1922 and was designed by Alfred Drury RA.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
“These died
that we might live
to the Glory of God
and in memory of the
men of Weston Super Mare
Uphill and Kewstoke who
fell in the Great War
1914-1919
Their name liveth for evermore”

“Rededicated
to the honoured memory of
all those of the
Borough of Weston Super Mare
who lost their lives in the War
1939-1945”
