The war memorial in Elmstead Market, Essex stands on village green. It is a light grey granite cross on a plinth surrounded by a gravelled base with a kerb.
In June 2004 War Memorials Trust gave £250 towards the construction of the memorial. Before this there had been no memorial to the people of Elmstead who gave their lives in World War II, and although there was a World War I memorial in the church, it was not accessible all the time.
The memorial has an inscription on the front face of the plinth which reads
Elmstead
Parish
Memorial
In
grateful memory
of those people
who lost their lives
in all conflicts
for the cause of freedom
We will remember them
