Dordon Cross war memorial is located in the churchyard of St Leonard’s Church in Dordon, Warwickshire. The granite wheel cross has a crusader sword on the shaft. A tapering plinth carries an inlaid panel whilst a plaque is sited on a two-stepped concrete base. The incised inscriptions painted black commemorate those who died in World War I and II.
In 2017, a grant of £890 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme supported by the First World War Memorials Programme to clean the memorial by hand with water and brushes. Best conservation practice promotes minimal intervention and for this memorial hand cleaning was sufficient. In addition, the black lettering was re-painted to match existing to make the inscriptions legible.
The memorial was erected in 1920 by public subscription and executed by H. C. Mitchell of Tamworth. The World War II inscriptions were added later on a new plaque on the steps.
