Balfron war memorial is sited outside the Parish Church on The Clachan. It is a man-made cairn of local blue whinstone with bronze plaques carrying the names of the fallen of both World Wars.
In 2018, a grant of £7,990 was awarded through the Centenary Memorials Restoration Fund towards repair and conservation works. This included stone repairs, re-setting of some stones as well as hand cleaning of the stonework. The memorial was also re-pointed with lime mortar. The paint on the bronze panels was removed following trials to identify the most appropriate approach. They were them treated to deter corrosion and waxed to create a protection layer against damage. As part of the In Memoriam 2014 initiative free SmartWater was applied to deter theft.
The memorial was unveiled in January 1922 by His Grace the Duke of Montrose to the 32 men who fell in World War I. The service involved Mr Turner, minister of the United Free Church and convener of the Memorial Committee. It is believed around 700 people were inside the church for the service with a further 200 outside. The plaques were designed by Archibald Dawson of the Glasgow School of Art whilst the cairn was built by Messrs Simpson of Balfron with the architect from Glasgow was Mr W A Robertson.
The inscription at the top of the larger panel reads "In memory of the men of the parish of Balfron who in the war gave their lives for honour and freedom". Across the bottom is states "Their name liveth forevermore.”
