Northenden war memorial is located at Northenden Social Club garden, Palatine Road, Northenden, Greater Manchester. This memorial is in the form of a York sandstone rectangular pillar surmounted by a Celtic wheel head cross with a reversed sword in carved relief, on a two stepped base. The raised lettering inscriptions on the two bronze plaques commemorate those who died in World War I and II. It is a Grade II-listed structure.
In 2016 a grant of £13,350 was awarded through War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards repairs to the crazy paving, new stone steps, a new access ramp around the side, repairs to the boundary wall and associated professional fees. Other works including soft landscaping, bench and bin were undertaken without grant assistance to improve the setting. SmartWater was applied as a condition of the grant to deter theft of the metal elements.
The memorial was unveiled by Mrs Tatton of Wythenshaw, assisted by Major G.C.G. Hamilton, and dedicated on Saturday 20th May 1922. The foundations were prepared by Messrs W Neild & Sons, the memorial was built by Messrs Edwin & Sons Ltd and sculpted by Mr Hilton & Sons. Land was donated by Mr Thomas E. Tatton JP and the memorial funded by the Tatton Estate and public subscription. A drinking fountain added in March 1923 was removed at an unknown time.
