Loughborough Carillon was built in 1923 by public subscription in memory of the 480 men who gave their lives in the First World War. The bell tower memorial is constructed of local brick and Portland stone. It contains 47 bells cast by Taylor's Bell Foundry of Loughborough with individual inscriptions on each bell. It is played using clavier (with keyboard). A museum is located within ground floor level. The structure has a copper covered balcony at the top. There are twelve wall mounted metal plaques with inscriptions in relief, on rusticated stone walls at the bottom of the tower.
In 2017, a grant of £1,500 was offered through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards a full condition survey and report with recommendations to inform necessary conservation and repair works which was undertaken by a conservation-accredited professional.
In 2018, a further grant was awarded through Grants for War Memorials, supported by Historic England, to undertake the identified works. £37,080 assisted stone cleaning, re-pointing, paving and conservation of the bronze elements. To help protect the metal elements they were marked with SmartWater as part of the In Memoriam 2014 initiative.
