Bolton le Sands war memorial cross s war memorial is located at Slyne Road, Bolton le Sands, Lancashire. This memorial is a sandstone Blomfield ‘Cross of Sacrifice’ with a bronze Sword of Peace. The shaft and pedestal sit on a plinth with incised inscriptions that commemorate those who died in World War I and World War II.
In 2016, a grant of £1,500 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards a Professional Advice Grant to produce a Specification for repair of the war memorial and surrounding garden of remembrance.
In 2017, a further grant of £14,710 was awarded through War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme to support repair and conservation works. This included stone repairs to the walls, stone paving and steps. The memorial was cleaned and re-pointed. In addition, the lettering was sharpened and deepened.
The deeds were given to the Parish Council for the site on 30th October 1922 and the unveiling of the original cross was held on 22nd July 1923. The original cross was demolished by a falling tree during high winds in February 2005. The plinth remained but the Parish Council replaced the cross nine months later and retrieved and replaced the original bronze Sword of Peace. It was rededicated at the Remembrance Service on 13th November 2005.
