Fressingfield war memorial comprises a clock with hammer-struck bells located in the church tower of St Peter and St Paul Church in Fressingfield. The church is located on Churchill Hill and is Grade I listed.
In 2017 War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme supported by First World War Memorials Programme offered a grant of £4,000 towards conservation works to reinstate the chimes of the clock. This ensured the war memorial was maintaining its commemorative function.
In 1921 the people of Fressingfield raised the money to install a clock in the Parish church tower, in memory to the men from the village who died in WWI. The chimes for the clock were paid for by the Father and Brother of Herbert John Fisher, who died in 1918. The memorial clock and chimes were designed and installed by G& F Cope of Nottingham. Many notable public clocks were produced by the Company, including Big Ben and other memorial clocks.
A plaque inside the church reads:
“Lord Thro’ This Hour Be Though Our Guide So By Thy Power No Foot Shall Slide. The Clock In This Tower Was Erected By The Inhabitants Of Fressingfield A.D. 1921. The Chimes Were Given By J. Fisher And G.W. Fisher In Memory Of Lt. Herbert J. Fisher A.F.A And Other Brave Men Of This Parish Who Fell In The Great War 1914-18”
