Dores war memorial is a masonry arch at the entrance to the kirkyard of Dores parish church. It is dedicated to those from Dores who lost their lives in World War One.
In 2016 a grant of £1,870.00 was awarded towards a detailed condition survey and report with recommendations for an appropriate programme of repair and conservation works. The report was undertaken by a conservation-accredited professional advisor.
In 2017 a grant of £28,310 was awarded for repair and conservations works as identified in the condition survey and report. The memorial had suffered gradual deterioation up until 1950/60, at this time the orginal terrocotta tiles which had delaminated were removed and replaced with roughcast. Since this time the memorial remained in relatively fair condition however issues with water ingress through the coping at the head of the memorial, cracking of the 1950/60 render, deterioation of the paint finish and corrosion of the gates along with the missing terrocotta tiles were all issues which were identified as requiring attention. To address the issues the render was removed and replaced with a lime rander, the corrosion and flaking paint was removed from the gates before they were repaired, the non orginal coping stones were replaced and a lead flashing was installed and the missing terrocotta tiles were replace to match the orginal design.
The memorial was constructed in 1920/21 to a design by Mrs G Fredrick Walls and was built by Messrs D & A Davidson of Inverness. The surrounding to the North face of the arch was orginally comprised of a themed mural of terracotta tiling, executed by the local Dores Pottery and entitled 'The Garment of Praise'.
