Cowie memorial consists of four-sided base surmounted by tapered plinth, shaft and Celtic cross. A general inscription caved into the principal face commemorates the fallen from both World Wars from Cowie and District and the names of the fallen are inscribed on the sides of the plinth. The lettering is in-filled with gold paint. The memorial is composed of black polished granite.
In 2016, a grant of £1,530 was offered for repair and conservation work to the base of the war memorial through the Centenary Memorials Restoration Fund. The defective facing tiles which had allowed water ingress were removed enabling the brickwork to be exposed, inspected and repaired. A new whin rubble skin was then built to create a sound base. Flame textured whin paving was also laid to the base of the memorial. A War Memorials Trust Conservation Officer had visited the memorial and seen the extent of problems as par of the grant assessment.
The memorial was erected in 2006 and unveiled by the Lord Provost of Stirlingshire.
The dedication on the war memorial reads:
“In
remembrance
of
the men
from Cowie and District
who made the
ultimate sacrifice
in the two World Wars
1914 - 1918
1939 - 1945
They gave
all their tomorrows
for our today
We will remember them”
