The category C listed memorial consists of a trapezoidal granite plinth which has a cast bronze panel, containing 36 names, on its front elevation. Surmounting the plinth is a bronze cast sculpture depicts a kilted soldier standing over a wounded comrade in an effort to shield him from the incoming fire. The memorial is located on Newmarket Street, Falkirk
In 2016 a grant of £750 was offered for the appointment of a conservation accredited Architect to undertake a detailed condition report and develop a specification of works setting out the repair and conservation works which are needed.
The memorial was unveiled by Field Marshall Earl Roberts on the 19th October 1906, a Commander of the British Troops in South Africa in 1900 and a Commander-in-Chief of the army in England from 1900-1914. The memorial was 'Erected in honour of the officers and men belonging to the eastern district of Stirlingshire who fell in the service of their country during the South African War 1899-1902'.
