The memorial consists of a stained glass window commemorating those who lost their lives in the First World War. The window is made up of two, five panelled Gothic arched lancets plus a single panel central kite above.
The central kite contains the Dove (Holy Spirt) surmounted by Alpha/Omega symbols. The left hand arched lancet depicts an angel holding the shield of St Luke. Below, David is gathering stones. The right hand lancet depicts an angel holding the shield of St John. Below, an angel guards the tomb of Jesus. Underneath both lancets, the names of those members of the congregation, and adherents, who fell in the Great War, are recorded.
The memorial is located in Laurcenkirk Church of Scotland, High Street, Laurcenkirk.
In 2014 a grant of £5,590 was offered for repair and conservation work. The memorial stained glass window faced a number of issues including extensive paint loss. The movement of lead work had contributed to vertical unevenness of the window and in some areas there are visible gaps between the lead and the glass. The window was also dirty and in some areas damage had occurred to the glass. To address these issues the stained glass window was to allow for conservation works to take place. This included the replacement of decayed copper saddle bar ties and stretched lead, low level cleaning, glass repairs and the consolidation of remaining paintwork. Once the window is put back into the church new ventilated protective glazing was also installed.
The Laurcenkirk war memorial stained glass window was funded by a sale of work held by the Churchwomens' Guild in the Dickson Hall, Laurencekirk on 21 December 1921 The drawings from the sale of work, together with a further sum from the Guild, resulted in a donation of £150 for the war memorial window. The stained glass window is attributed to the studio of Oscar Paterson. A service of dedication took place in the Church on 17 May 1922.
