Shireoaks war memorial © Shireoaks Parish Council 2005The war memorial in the former pit village of Shireoaks in north west Nottinghamshire is a turret clock, part of St Luke’s Church on Shireoaks Road. There are clock faces on the north and south sides of the tower. It is dedicated to those who served and died in the Second World War.

War Memorials Trust contributed £250 to the repair of the striking motor which had broken. Previous works had taken place in 1995.

The Turret Clock was paid for by public subscription and funds raised at a concert and other fundraising events. The clock cost of £380. It was constructed by G&F Cope of Lenton in Nottingham. A dedication service took place on 9th November 1947 and the clock was set in motion at 3pm by Mr W. H. Getliff, a long term village resident and formerly Head Master of Shireoaks Church of England School.
