Castle Eden war memorial is located at the entrance to Parklands on Stockton Road and takes the form of a cross. The memorial is composed of a stepped base, plinth, shaft and cross. There is a sword in relief on the cross and bronze plaques fixed to the plinth containing the inscriptions. The memorial is dedicated to the fallen of the First and Second World Wars.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1295 towards the conservation of this memorial. The memorial was cleaned using a DOFF steam cleaning system. Loose and defective mortar was raked out by hand and open joints were re-pointed using lime mortar, colour matched to the stonework. The bronze plaques were treated with microcrystalline wax.
Castle Eden war memorial was designed by Messrs Hick and Charlwood; the cross was made by R. Beall of Newcastle and the bronze plaques were created by J. W. Singer and Sons of Frome. The memorial was unveiled on 11th January 1922 by the Earl of Durham and dedicated by Dr Hensley Henson, Bishop of Durham. The inscription on the memorial reads:
