MMarston Moreteyne war memorial after cleaning © Marston Moreteyne Parish Council, 2015arston Moreteyne war memorial is a limestone Latin cross on top of a tapering octagonal shaft. The shaft sits on a square plinth with chamfered corners on a three-stepped base. The structure is set in a lawn at the junction of Station Road and Bedford Road in Marston Moreteyne and surrounded by limestone posts. The memorial lists the names of the men that fought and died in the First and Second World Wars in lead lettering, along with commemorative inscriptions.

In 2014 a grant of £630 was offered through the Small Grants Scheme towards cleaning the memorial. In order to improve the legibility of the inscriptions low pressure steam cleaning was used to remove the build-up of surface dirt and biological growth. Although not funded through this grant, further work to the memorial was also undertaken at the same time. Marston Moreteyne war memorial before cleaning © Hazel Trustam, 2014The memorial was re-pointed, the shaft was re-fixed to the pin and the steel chains were reinstated on the pillars surrounding the memorial.

The architect for the memorial was Messrs William Morris & Co. and the builder was Messrs SW Jarvis & Son. The memorial was unveiled by the Duke of Bedford on 13th March 1921 at a dedication service performed by Rev AR Johnson.
