Kirkcaldy war memorial is located at Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery and takes the form of a wall. The memorial is composed of a Baxter stone wall and York stone paving, with bronze plaques fixed to the wall. The memorial is Category B Listed and commemorates the fallen veterans and also those who served in the First and Second World Wars, Palestine, the Malayan Emergency, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan. The inscriptions are incised in the wall, and appear on the bronze plaques.
In 2011 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £4,633 towards the conservation of this memorial. The memorial was covered in algae so was cleaned using low pressure deionised water and non-metallic brushes, failed and opened joints were re-pointed with a lime mortar mix to match the existing and a displaced stone block at the base of the wall was re-fixed using an appropriate lime mortar mix. Additional works, not included in the grant offer but undertaken at the expense of the applicant, involved increasing the height of the wall to accommodate four additional plaques. These works were undertaken with Listed Building Consent.
