The war memorial consists of a freestanding granite stone Celtic cross with tampered rectangular plinth with commemorative inscription and roll of honour. The whole memorial is raised off the ground on a tapered rubble base. The memorial is located at the junction of Main Street and Kilmarnock Road, Dundonald.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £8,050 for repair, conservation and access work. Views and access to the memorial had been restricted by an unsympathetic large brick structure which was constructed around the memorial following its construction. This had been hit on a number of occasions by passing traffic at the junction causing damage. To address these issues the grant funding supported works to remove the brick structure and the laying of hard landscaping to match the existing. Bollards were also installed to protect the memorial from potential traffic collision.
The war memorial unveiled in January 1921 to the memory of 54 men of the parish who fell in the First World War under Lieut.-General Sir Aylmer Hunter-Weston, K.C.B., M.P., late commanding the 8th Army Corps.
