Glentham war memorial clock mechanism after works © Glentham Parish Council 2014Glentham war memorial is located at St Peter’s Church and takes the form of a clock. St Peter’s Church is listed and stands in a conservation area. The memorial is dedicated to the fallen of the First World War.

In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,661 towards the conservation of this memorial. The clock had been unreliable so works were undertaken to the mechanism of the clock. The works included; repairing the worn brushes and discharging the lever roller, dismantling, cleaning and lightly oiling the clock mechanism, automatic winding weight cable correction work, dial motion works and transmission, securing the loose bar lever and repairs to the strike hammer assembly.

In 2022 a grant of £1,870 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme. The grant awarded supported works to conserve the memorial clock. The mechanism needed the introduction of a support and the hands were bent so they required straightening so that they would not catch on the dial. Both of these works were needed to improve the running of the clock and prevent further damage.

The clock mechanism was installed in 1921 as a memorial to those lost in the First World War. The mechanism was made by T M Hartley of Shillingford.
