Shelton Lock war memorial after grant works © Mel Martin 2014Shelton Lock war memorial is located on Sinfin Avenue and takes the form of a sculpture. The memorial is composed of a stepped base and tall plinth surmounted by a sculpture of a serviceman standing with a rifle. The inscriptions are on the plinth and formed of lead lettering.

In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £810 for repair and conservation work. The carved stone figure of a solider had been damaged and the end section of this rifle was missing. In addition the surface of the memorial had a covering of biological growth. To address these issues the memorial was stream cleaned prior to undertaken the stone repair works. A new section of matching stone was fixed to the rifle with stainless steel fixing and then carefully carved to match the historic images of the memorial which showed the original detailing.
