This war memorial consists of a Latin cross with a sword of sacrifice carved in relief surmounting a tapering shaft and a three-stepped octagonal base. There are inscriptions incised into the sides of the plinth and bronze plaque set into the rear face.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,300 towards repairs to the memorial. The steps of the memorial were splaying and the large joints had been filled with a cement mortar. Several steps were in poor condition and the stone was delaminating or splitting. In order to effectively re-set the stone steps they were carefully dismantled and any loose cement was removed using hand tools. Four of the steps were pinned using stainless steel dowels and the steps were re-laid in their true positions and bedded in a lime mortar. The memorial was cleaned using a steam cleaning system. Individual letters sharpened using hand tools where definition was lost. Finally, a limewash was applied to protect the stone from further degradation.
The war memorial was commissioned and funded by Mr Restall, a local bead manufacturer in memory of sixteen local men who dies in World War I. The war memorial was unveiled on 25th December 1919.
